The Alabama softball team defeated Long Island 5-0 in Game 2 of the Tuscaloosa Regional on Friday night.

Right-handed pitcher Jaala Torrence started in the circle for the Crimson Tide. She pitched the full game shutout, recording four hits, five strikeouts, and no walks.

Alabama got on the board first in the first inning, scoring one run off the bat of designated player Bailey Dowling. Dowling hit an RBI double, brining in third baseman Ashley Prange, who hit a double in the previous at-bat.

The Crimson Tide extended its lead in the second inning, scoring two runs off the bat of second baseman Kali Heivilin. Hevilin hit a two-run home run, bringing in her and Emma Broadfoot, who walked the previous at-bat.

Alabama capped off its scoring in the fifth inning, bringing in two runs off a home run by catcher Ally Shipman. The base traffic started with a one-out drawn walk by Prange, then two batters later, came the Shipman bomb to left field.

Torrence is now 7-2 on the season and has a 2.21 ERA.
