Tigers Pounce on Tide to Force Game 3 Rubber Match

LSU evens up the series with a 6-3 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide, forcing a game three rubber match Sunday at 1 p.m.

Alabama starter Aidan Moza got knocked with the loss on the evening, while LSU's Luke Holman earned the win.

LSU started the game hot with a Tommy White double off the wall and a Jared Jones walk, but two flyouts and a strikeout in the next three at-bats got Alabama out of the inning unscathed.

The top of the Alabama lineup loaded the bases via an array of free passes and fielder's choices. Kade Snell would ground out to second base, allowing Ian Petrutz to cross home plate for the first run of the afternoon.

LSU responded in the visitors' half of the second with a two-RBI double from third baseman Tommy White to take a 2-1 lead.

After a mostly silent third inning from both sides, Adams would drop the Tigers in order in the top half of the fourth. Alabama would draw even in the latter half of the fourth on a Hamiter fielder's choice, sending Kade Snell past home to make the score 2-2.

Adams would shut down the top of the LSU order in the fifth, giving the Alabama offense a chance to take the lead. Holman would hit Gage Miller to allow the Tide leadoff man aboard and walk Will Hodo with two outs. On the following at-bat, designated hitter Kade Snell couldn't find a gap in the outfield, stranding two and ending the inning.

Adams loaded the bases in the sixth. Aidan Moza relieved Adams on the mound with one out in the inning, allowing one run on a Jake Brown fielder's choice. LSU took a 3-2 advantage into the bottom of the sixth, a lead they would never relinquish.

The Tide couldn't respond in the bottom of the sixth despite loading the bases for the second time of the evening.

The Tigers lineup would pounce on Moza in the seventh. Josh Pearson would single through the left side to score Jared Jones from second. Moza would strike out Hayden Travinski on the following at-bat and force an Ashton Larson to fly out to weather the storm. However, a Michael Braswell III RBI triple would extend the Tigers' lead. Braswell III would score on a wild pitch the following at-bat to add another insurance run to give the Tigers a 6-2 lead.

Alabama would cut into LSU's advantage with a Mac Guscette RBI single in the home half of the seventh.

Zane Probst would enter the game in the eighth and shut down the Tigers' lineup in both the eighth and ninth innings. However, Alabama couldn't find some more late-game magic this evening, dropping game two of their final homestand, 6-3.

The Crimson Tide will look to take home the series win in a game three rubber match tomorrow for a 1 p.m. Mother's Day showdown.
