Tommy Tuberville on Saban in 2017: “This Was His Best Coaching Job Yet” [Audio]
Monday night, Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide wrapped up the 2017 season in crimson and white thanks to a 26-23 overtime victory over the SEC champion Georgia Bulldogs.
In addition to another Crimson Tide national championship, spectators saw freshman quarterback Tua Tagovailoa emerge onto the national stage and Nick Saban equaling Paul “Bear” Bryant’s mark of six national championship in his coaching career.
During Wednesday’s visit Inside the Locker Room, former Auburn head football coach Tommy Tuberville offered his analysis of a variety of topics including his post-national championship game recap, the ramifications of Tua Tagovailoa’s performance for Alabama’s future at quarterback and the impact of recruiting for Alabama and Georgia’s football programs.
From the onset of the 2017 calendar year, the Crimson Tide faced numerous challenges ranging from the departures of offensive coordinators Lane Kiffin and Steve Sarkisian to the multitude of injuries affecting players on both sides of the ball.
Tuberville cited these factors regarding why he thinks that the 2017 national championship season was Nick Saban’s best coaching job in Tuscaloosa.
“I thought this was his best year coaching because he didn’t have the players in terms of experience that he’s had in the past, and he hasn’t had the injuries and he worked through all that. He’s worked through losing coaches and coordinators.” Tuberville said.
