UA Baseball Beat Writer Ben Jones Recaps the Hiring of Alabama’s New Baseball Coach [Audio]
Roughly a week after firing Greg Goff as Alabama’s head baseball coach, athletic director Greg Byrne found his man for the job.
The University of Alabama announced the hiring of Auburn assistant coach Brad Bohannon as the Crimson Tide’s 32nd head baseball coach in school history.
Shortly after Alabama confirmed Bohannon’s hiring as head baseball coach, Alabama baseball beat writer for The Tuscaloosa News Ben Jones analyzed the program’s hiring of Bohannon during Thursday’s edition of The Gary Harris Show.
Jones mentioned Bohannon’s recruiting as one of the primary strengths in his coaching portfolio.
“Brad (Bohannon) is a guy who has a really strong reputation as a recruiter around the Southeastern Conference.” Jones said.
With a short time frame from the time of Goff’s departure to the hiring of Bohannon, Jones provided his guess at where Bohannon ranked on Greg Byrne’s list of candidates for the Alabama baseball job.
“Given the time frame of eight days, I would bet that he was perhaps the first and if not the first, then one of the very first calls that was made.” Jones said.
The Alabama baseball beat writer later touched on the outlook for the Crimson Tide’s roster for 2018, how the swiftness of the search limited opportunities for the media to get the news of the hiring ahead of the baseball program and the future for Greg Goff’s former assistant coaches at Alabama.
The Gary Harris Show airs every weekday from 9-11 AM on Tide 102.9/100.9 and the radioPup app.
