Alabama Baseball Lands Three Key Transfers to Bolster 2027 Roster
The Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team, fresh off its first College World Series appearance since 1999, wasted no time making noise in the transfer portal.

Head coach Rob Vaughn and his staff landed three key commits this week: right-handed pitchers Garret Lambert (Mercer) and Michael Senjay (USF) on Tuesday, followed by Missouri catcher Mateo Serna on Saturday.
Below, we take a closer look at each of the Crimson Tide’s three transfer pickups from this week.
Redshirt Sophomore RHP, Garret Lambert, Mercer
The 6-2, 200-pound right-hander brings impressive strikeout stuff after two seasons with the Bears. Lambert posted a 7-1 record and 4.12 ERA in 89.2 innings, with 110 strikeouts against just 33 walks. After missing 2025 due to Tommy John surgery, he earned SoCon Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-American honors in 2026, striking out 90 in 71 innings while posting five games with nine or more strikeouts.
Lambert is expected to immediately compete for a weekend rotation spot as Alabama potentially replaces Tyler Fay and Zane Adams.
Sophomore RHP, Michael Senjay, USF
Senjay dominated as a freshman at South Florida, posting a 6-3 record and team-best 3.78 ERA over 81 innings. He led the American Athletic Conference in WHIP, held opponents to a .233 average, and earned All-Conference Freshman honors.
Like Lambert, the 6-2, 200-pounder looks primed for a big role in Alabama’s weekend rotation.
“I have dreamed of going to Bama since my junior year of high school,” Senjay told Crimson Coverage. “I could just tell by the coaching staff's energy that it was what I needed in order to finalize my decision. It just showed me how much they really wanted me to play for them."
Senior Catcher, Mateo Serna, Missouri
The veteran catcher announced his commitment Saturday and will play his final collegiate season in Tuscaloosa. Serna made 117 starts behind the plate for the Tigers, including 44 in 2026, while hitting .240 with 21 RBIs.
With Brady Neal and John Lemm graduating, Serna pairs with returning captain Will Plattner to give Alabama two experienced SEC catchers.
With the offseason just getting started, don’t be surprised if Vaughn and his staff add more pieces. The Tide lost several key contributors, including Justin Lebron, Bryce Fowler, Brennan Holt, and Jason Torres, but still looks well-positioned for another strong SEC run in 2027.
