It appears Alabama avoided what could have been a huge loss when x-ray results were sent back on first baseman Austen Smith's left wrist, showing he only suffered a bone bruise.

The lone senior in the starting lineup was hit by a pitch during Saturday's 4-1 victory over Auburn. Although he played through the injury in game two, he sat out on Sunday as the Crimson Tide closed out another SEC series win.

Smith's playing status is considered day-to-day but he's expected to miss Tuesday's game against Jackson State as well as Wednesday's game against UAB in Birmingham. The team is hopeful he'll be able to return for an important road series against Tennessee, which begins on Friday.

With Smith returning, Alabama will have its best bat back in the lineup as it tries to maintain its first-place position in the conference. The Golden Spikes Award candidate leads the team in batting average (.355), home runs (4), RBI (26), and on-base percentage (.445).
