Alabama baseball improved its record to 12-0 after defeating UIC 9-7. Alabama won the two previous games of the three game series against UIC and finished the series off with an offensive battle against the Flames.

"I thought we came out hot and we got up 7-2 and it felt like we took our foot of the pedal, and maybe thought it was going to be easy, we really didn't like the back half of the game," said head coach Brad Bohannon.

UIC started the game off hot with a 2-0 going into the bottom of the second until Alabama's third basemen Colby Shelton hit a grand slam to put the Crimson Tide up 4-2. Alabama has hit a grand slam in four consecutive games for the first time in program history.

"I try to go up there every AB with the same mindset and that's to do anything I can do to help the team get a win," said Shelton after the game.

Shelton has hit five home runs and two grand slams throughout the series against UIC.

After a home run by first basemen Drew Williamson in the bottom of the second inning and a two run home run by catcher Mac Guscette, Alabama had a 7-2 lead going into the fourth inning.

In the top of the fourth inning UIC brought the game closer after a RBI single from catcher Jackson Bessette and a three run home run from Carson Roberts that brought the score to 7-6.

Alabama was able to extend its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after a RBI single from shortstop Jim Jarvis and a RBI single from William Hamiter to bring the score 9-6.

The Crimson Tide only allowed one more run from the Flames. It came on an RBI single from third basemen Charlie Szykowny in the eighth inning.

Pitcher Zane Probst gets his first win of the season for the Crimson Tide and pitcher Braylon Myers gets his third save of the season.

Alabama will head on the road to play at Samford Tuesday, March 7.
