According to Matt Zenitz of AL.com, Alabama defensive back Jeffery “Scooby” Carter has withdrawn his name from the transfer portal and will return to Tuscaloosa for the 2020 season. Carter played in three games for Alabama as a freshman this past year, recording one tackle against New Mexico State. Carter entered the transfer portal on November 18, two days after missing the road trip to Mississippi State reportedly due to suspension for missing class.

Carter was a four-star cornerback out of Mansfield Legacy High School in Mansfield, Texas. He was the ninth rated cornerback in the nation and the 15th rated recruit in the state of Texas according to 247sports. Carter enrolled early in the spring of 2019 and recorded four tackles in the A-Day game.

Carter had been absent from Alabama practices since entering the transfer portal. Due to playing in only three contests this past year Carter can redshirt and maintain four more years of eligibility.
