Defensive lineman Jonathan Allen became the second player from The University of Alabama taken in the 2017 NFL Draft when the Washington Redskins took him with the 17th overall pick.

One of the most decorated defensive players in Alabama history, Allen returned for his senior season despite a first or second round draft grade a year ago. He became one of the most formidable players in college football, winning SEC Defensive Player of the Year, the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award, and the Lombardi Award in 2016.

Over his four year career in Tuscaloosa, Allen finished with 28 total sacks and 44.5 tackles for a loss. He led the team in sacks both his junior and senior seasons after finishing second as a sophomore.

Most mock drafts had Allen in the top 10, but the Redskins end up with one of the top defensive players in the country.
