The Alabama Crimson Tide battled in Nashville and defeated the LSU Tigers in the SEC Tournament Championship 80-79 to win the first tournament title for the Tide since 1991. Alabama defeated three teams in three days to ensure its championship, the Tide was able to win both the regular season and the tournament championship in a historic season.

Despite blowing out the Bayou Bengals twice in the regular season by 30 and by 18, the Crimson Tide was in a 40-minute dogfight with the LSU Tigers today. Alabama relied on its defense in the game's final possession to close out LSU and secure the tournament title. The Tide was the only Power 5 team to win both its regular season and tournament conference championships.

The Crimson Tide were led by the SEC Player of the Year, Herb Jones on offense and defense. Jones filled up the box score to a tune of 13 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, four blocks and a steal. He would single handedly put the Crimson Tide on top for good, recording a late rebound and driving the ball coast-to-coast for a layup that put the Tide ahead by one-point.

Jones was not alone today as he was helped by sophomores Jaden Shackelford and Jahvon Quinerly and junior Keon Ellis offensively. Shackelford led the way with 21 points, converting on five of his 13, 3-point shots. Quinerly added 14 points off the bench.

Quinerly was named 2021 SEC Tournament MVP, scoring 47 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.

LSU was led largely by Mountain Brook High School product Trendon Watford. Watford, a former 5-star recruit paced the Tigers with 30 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals to lead all scorers. Watford's final 3-point attempt came up short for the Tigers, sending them home as SEC Tournament Runners-up.

Alabama will now turn its attention to the NCAA Tournament selection show at 5 p.m. CT. Prior to the weekend Alabama was projected to receive a No. 2 seed, however the Crimson Tide's tournament championship could propel Alabama to earning a No. 1 seed in the big dance.
