Alabama Governor Kay Ivey apologizes to Bubba Wallace

Tuscaloosa, Ala- The governor of Alabama apologizes to Bubba Wallace after a noose was found in the drivers garage at the Talladega Super Speedway.

NASCAR said in a statement a member of Wallace's team found a noose in the driver garage at the speedway. This came after Wallace, who urged the movement to get rid of the displays of the Confederate battle flag at NASCAR events. On the day the flag was banned Wallace drove a car with #Black Lives Matter.

Kay Ivey sent an apology to Wallace. " While the important conversation of racial reconciliation is ongoing all over our country, it is clear there is much work to do. Bubba Wallace is one of us; he is a native of Mobile and on behalf of all Alabamians, I apologize to Bubba Wallace as well as to his family and friends for the hurt this has caused and regret the mark this leaves on our state,"

Wallace is in his third season driving number 43 Chevrolet for Richard Petty Motor Sports. He is the only black driver in the NASCAR Cup series.

"Nothing is more important and we will not be deterred by the reprehensible actions of those who seek to spread hate," said Wallace in a statement " this a painful reminder of how much further we have to go as a society and how persistent we must be in a fight against racism."

Outside of the Super Speedway, there was a two-mile caravan of cars displaying the Confederate flag on Sunday. A plane flew over with the flag, with the phrase,"Defund NASCAR." There was no Confederate flags seen in the SuperSpeedway.

On Sunday night, NASCAR made a statement, "We are angry and outraged, and cannot state strongly enough how seriously we take this heinous act." NASCAR also said,"there is no place for racism in NASCAR."
