Alabama defensive lineman O.J. Smith announced Wednesday that he has decided to transfer from the program heading into his junior season.

The Louisiana native thanked his coaches and teammates in an Instagram post where he also said he discussed the decision with his head coach and family.

Smith redshirted his first year in Tuscaloosa after coming out of high school as a three-star prospect. He played sparingly behind a loaded defensive line in 2015 and 2016, and finished his Alabama career with two total tackles.
