Redshirt junior linebacker, Markail Benton, has officially entered the transfer portal according to AL.com's Matt Zenitz. Benton was removed from the Alabama online roster twice this offseason and now he is officially looking for a new school. Saban revealed in his first Zoom meeting of the offseason that Benton was left off the online roster due to suspension.

Benton was removed from the roster for the first time this offseason on February 18, the move was called a clerical error. He was once again removed from the online roster on March 9. Saban on April 2 said the second time was due to violating team rules.

Benton was a four-star prospect in the 2017 recruiting class. 247Sports rated him the fourth prospect in the state of Alabama the seventh overall outside linebacker in the nation. He chose the Crimson Tide over the Auburn Tigers when leaving Central High School in Phenix City, Alabama.

Benton was passed over for playing time by Christian Harris, Shane Lee and Ale Kaho this past season. Harris, Lee and Kaho will return this year and be joined by upperclassmen Dylan Moses and Joshua McMillion as well as incoming freshman Jackson Bratton and Demouy Kennedy.

Benton has played in 25 games, recording 33 tackles on special teams and defense in his Crimson Tide career.

Benton's future is unknown but it bears noting that he was recruited to Alabama by current Tennessee head coach and defensive coordinator, Jeremy Pruitt and Derrick Ansley.
