Russaw, a 6-foot-2, 243-pound linebacker from Carver High School in Montgomery, Alabama, originally chose the Crimson Tide over the Auburn Tigers, the Florida Gators, and the Georgia Bulldogs. In 2023, he redshirted and saw no action with the Crimson Tide. In 2024, he expanded his role and appeared in all 13 games with six starts for the Crimson Tide, totaling 36 tackles, two interceptions, one sack, and one forced fumble.

In 2025, Russaw started the year as Alabama's starting WOLF linebacker, but suffered a broken foot in Alabama's 24-21 victory over Georgia. Despite the injury, he still started three games with appearances in eight for the Crimson Tide, totaling 13 tackles and one sack. His starting spot was taken by redshirt sophomore Yhonzae Pierre, who ended the season with eight sacks for Alabama.
