Alabama Starts the 2016 Season Ranked No. 1 in AP Top 25

For the first time since 1992, the AP Top 25 will begin the year with the same top two teams as it finished with in January. Alabama (33) and Clemson (16) received 49 of the poll's 61 first-place votes.

As successful as the Crimson Tide football program as been through the years, this marks just the fifth time in the history of the poll that team will begin the year as the top-ranked team. It happened two other times under Nick Saban (2010, 2013) and just two additional times ever (1966, 1978).

A total of seven teams received first place votes, which is the most since 1998. The Southeastern Conference placed three teams in the top 10 and six in the top 25.

Alabama's 2016 schedule includes four teams in the top 20 and they are all played away from home. The season begins with a trip to Arlington to face No. 20 USC.
