Alabama Women’s Basketball Dominates in Season Opener
TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- Alabama Women's Basketball kicked off their season on Monday with a commanding performance against the New Orleans Privateers, securing a 115-53 victory. The Crimson Tide established dominance early and maintained their momentum throughout the game.
This season opener featured a No.24 ranked Alabama team eager to make an impact. It marked the first occasion in three years that the Crimson Tide scored over 100 points in a game, surpassing their previous high of 109 against Charleston Southern on Nov. 9, 2021. With a blend of seasoned players and promising newcomers, the Crimson Tide aims to build on last year's achievements and strengthen their position in the competitive realm of women's college basketball.
The game served as a glimpse into what could be a remarkable season, with key players stepping up to secure the win. Aaliyah Nye excelled with 25 points, shooting 7 of 12 from beyond the arc, while Sarah Ashlee Barker contributed 23 points, including three 3-pointers.
The Tide's defense was relentless, forcing 35 turnovers that translated into 38 points, with a halftime score of 58-27 after capitalizing on 28 turnovers. The Crimson Tide dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Privateers 49-27, including a staggering 22-4 advantage on the offensive glass, leading to 27 second-chance points. An 18-2 run propelled them to a 25-13 lead after the first quarter, and an 18-3 surge to start the second half extended their lead to 76-30.
