The Southeastern Conference office announced on Wednesday that the Bowling Green, Ky., native Canon Claycomb was chosen for SEC Golfer of the Week.

Claycomb earned his first collegiate medalist honor after leading the tournament wire-to-wire at the Watersound Invitational in Panama City, Florida.

Claycomb recorded three consecutive rounds in the 60s (67-66-69) to seize an eight-stroke win with a 14-under par 202 on the par 72, 7,020-yard Shark’s Golf Course. Claycomb’s victory was the first medalist and first top-five finish in his college career.

The junior led the field by going 11-under par on par 5 holes (4.08 stroke average), while his 17 birdies were more then any golfer across the event. His performance assisted The Tide in finishing runner-up at the tournament.

Claycomb earned the SEC Freshman of the Week on March 4, 2020 which makes this his second weekly award of his college career.

Alabama will carry onto its spring campaign at the Cabo Collegiate in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico this Sunday-Tuesday, Feb. 27- March 1.
