Wisconsin Starting QB Unlikely to Play Vs. Alabama
The Wisconsin Badgers will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to fulfill the second half of a home-and-home series that sent the Crimson Tide to Madison, Wisconsin, last season. Alabama cruised to a victory last season, 42-10 over Wisconsin. The Badgers will be looking for revenge this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

However, Wisconsin won't be at full strength for its second bout with the Crimson Tide. According to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, Wisconsin starting quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. is unlikely to play on Saturday against Alabama after suffering a lower-body injury in Wisconsin's week one victory over Miami (Ohio).
In Nakos's report, he said Edwards is viewed as day-to-day, but still not 100%. Backup quarterback Danny O'Neil is expected to make his second start for the Badgers this season.
In the Badgers' opening-weekend victory over Miami (Ohio), Edwards completed 6-13 passes for 68 yards before his injury.
Through two games (one start) for Wisconsin backup quarterback Danny O'Neil, he's completing 76.1% of his passes for 403 yards and four touchdowns. He's also thrown two interceptions and was sacked three times in the first two games.
O'Neil is confident in his abilities against the Crimson Tide, saying in an interview on Tuesday after practice,
“They’re still Alabama. They’ve got a bunch of good athletes. They’re well-coached, and it’s going to be a good opportunity for us to really see where we’re at, going into a hostile environment, playing a really good team and just seeing how we stack up against them.
“Yeah, if we go down there and we do our thing, if we play a full four quarters of smash mouth football, I’m really excited to see what we’ll be able to do. And I know that, maybe there is some extra motivation this week, just because of how the game did go last year, that the guys are going to come out swinging, and I know we’re going to fight our hardest and just really excited for the opportunity to go down there, and try and put ourselves on the map," O'Neil said. "Everyone’s been doubting us. No one really talks about us. I think we’re 18-point dogs, so just being able to go out there and prove to the country who we are and what we can do is something that we’re looking forward to.”
Alabama and Wisconsin will kick off at 1:00 a.m. inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. You can listen to the game on Tide 100.9 and the Tide 100.9 app.
