Bryce Young: “The Most Important Thing is That I am a Man of Faith”

Bryce Young put together a prolific sophomore campaign, captured the Heisman trophy, set school records and brought home virtually every award he could in the process. However, Young isn’t defined by his personal accolades or just playing football for that matter.

He was asked on Tuesday during SEC Media Days about the most important thing he wants people to know about him.

“The most important thing is that I am a man of faith,” Young said. “I feel like that’s most important in my life, and that’s what guides my actions.”

Young has truly lived his life and conducted himself in a way that resembles his faith. He is a humble, well-spoken and passionate individual. He’s a natural born leader on the field and never makes things about himself.

Young has been in the spotlight since his days at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. He took over for five-star JT Daniels when he left for USC in 2018, immediately making him the new face of one of the most prestigious high school football programs in the country. Young led the Monarchs to a CIF Championship in his first season under center and quickly pointed to his faith and teammates after the victory.

“Really how I do it is keeping my faith in God knowing that he’s going to handle everything and when I have the teammates around him, the line blocking for me, receivers making plays it’s really easy."

As a freshman, Young sat behind Mac Jones as he guided the Crimson Tide to a national championship. He only attempted 22 passes, completing 13 of them for 156 yards and one touchdown in nine games. The Alabama signal-caller sat and waited and when his opportunity came the following season, he took full advantage.

"Bryce (Young) is a tremendous young man,” said offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien in December. “He's very smart. He's very poised. He's very humble. He's a great teammate. And every great quarterback that I've been fortunate to be around has those qualities."
