Alabama Women’s Basketball Perimeter Defense Helps Offense Prevail Against Samford
Yesterday evening, the Crimson Tide hosted the Samford Bulldogs at Coleman Coliseum for the fifth matchup of the season.

The Crimson Tide's 84-45 win over the Bulldogs was due to many factors. One of those factors was Alabama's perimeter defense. Samford had a hard time finding their rhythm for a majority of the game. The Crimson Tide held Samford to a low 29.4 percent shooting from the field and 29.6 from beyond the arc.
Samfords' guards throughout the game found difficulty to create much movement on offense. From sideline to sideline, Alabama held their defense together through their toughness and grit. Players like Ta'Mia Scott and Diana Collins created havoc by their deflections plus ball pressure.
Alabama Women's Basketball Head Coach Kristy Curry spoke about that and more.
I thought we did a really good job. Every shot [was] contested, I thought we were denying one pass away. I thought our press was effective. I thought we speed them up some. We did a really nice job of meeting our switches like switching out instead of flat. I thought we commuincated better. We had more ball pressure at the one with ball in backs.
The Crimson Tide created havoc for Samford's offense all night long. Samford committed 17 turnovers, resulting in 24 points off those turnovers for Alabama. Sierra Godbolt posted a team high 13 points but struggled shooting 3 of 8 from the field. Samford's offense could not find any success to keep up with the fast paced Crimson Tide.
After their win over Samford last night, the Crimson Tide will look to build off that defensive performance moving forward. The competition will only get tougher so its essential that Alabama strengthens its grip on defense.
The Crimson Tide will head to Nassau, Bahamas for the Pink Flamingo Tournament. Their first matchup of the tournament will be against Harvard on Monday at 5:30 p.m. CT.
