Dalvin Cook Signs $65 Million Contract With Vikings
Veteran running back Dalvin Cook of the Minnesota Vikings signed a five-year extension worth $63 million. This deal came one day prior to their season opening home game versus the Green Bay Packers. After being drafted by Minnesota in the second round of 2017 draft, he was committed to playing out the final year of his rookie deal earning him $1.3 million.
Cook is now the latest running back to sign a contract prior to the start of the 2020 season joining Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry and Alvin Kamara. This deal secures the running back through the 2025 season. Getting the deal done means that Cook will not hold out as he previously considered doing.
Cook has been a key asset to Minnesota's offense, taking 38% of the offensive touches in 2019. This is the ninth most touches by any player in the NFL to date. He also led the NFL in yards after the catch per reception with 11.3 yards. It is no doubt that Cook has a big future with the Vikings, especially now that a $65 million extension has been signed. In his three-year career he has rushed for 2,104 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Cook has been an effective running back for the Vikings but also has missed significant time in the league due to injury. Cook has missed 21 games in his first three years due to various injuries.
