Alabama DL Coach Karl Dunbar Hired by Pittsburgh Steelers
A day after National Signing Day, the Alabama coaching staff is again looking for another assistant coach.
Defensive line coach Karl Dunbar has accepted the same position with the Pittsburgh Steelers after spending two seasons with the Crimson Tide.
“It’s awesome to be back,” Dunbar told the Steelers' team website. “This team drafted me out of college. Just to be back and the nostalgia of Pittsburgh, the mystic of Pittsburgh, the workman’s mentality. Hopefully I can bring that to the team.
“Having the relationship with Mike and some of the coaches on the staff. Knowing Coach Mitchell, who was a coach at LSU when I played. A lot of things he did, I do. I will lean on him to help me get to know the guys in the defensive line room and hopefully make it a great transition.”
Dunbar came to Tuscaloosa from the NFL in 2016 when he accepted a job on Nick Saban's staff. During his time with Alabama, Dunbar coached a numberl of NFL players and oversaw a dominant defensive front that led the nation with 54 sacks in 2016.
This marks the fourth assistant coach that has departed the program since winning a national championship in early January.
