Oats' new contract is an extension through the 2032 season, and raises Oats' salary to $7.2 million, making him the fourth-highest-paid coach in college basketball, only behind Kansas's Bill Self, UConn's Dan Hurley, and Arkansas's John Calipari. Oats was previously the eighth-highest-paid coach at $5.5 million, and is now paid more than Chris Beard at Ole Miss, Todd Golden at Florida, Rick Barnes at Tennessee, and Tom Izzo at Michigan State.

“I am blessed and honored for the opportunity to continue as the head coach of the men’s basketball program at the University of Alabama,” Oats said in a release by the University of Alabama. “President Mohler, Chancellor Trant, the entire Board of Trustees, and our athletics director, Greg Byrne, have been tremendously supportive and provided us the resources to compete for championships each and every year. We have enjoyed tremendous success during our seven years at Alabama, and we look forward to building on that for many years to come.”

“Coach Oats has done an incredible job with our men’s basketball team over the last seven seasons,” said Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne in a statement. “We appreciate his commitment to Alabama and look forward to continued success under his leadership. Thank you to President Mohler, Chancellor Trant, and our Board of Trustees for their approval in this process.”

Oats' new contract not only increases his base salary but also increases his buyout. His new buyout will be $15 million through March 2027, then $12 million through March 2028.
