National Recruiting Analyst Tom Lemming Previews National Signing Day [Audio]
A monumental day is approaching for athletes across the country as a number of America’s top high school football players will decide where they will play at the collegiate level.
During Monday’s edition of Inside the Locker Room, noted national recruiting guru and co-host of The Lemming Report Tom Lemming surveyed the recruiting scene with two days remaining until National Signing Day.
Lemming offered his assessment of the front runners on the recruiting trail for the 2017 recruiting season.
“It could be seven straight years for a number one class for Alabama. No one has ever come close to that. They’re battling Ohio State right now for the number one spot.” Lemming stated.
According to BamaOnline.com, the Crimson Tide has 24 total commitments with half of those commitments as early enrollees. One of those early enrollees is quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
During his conversation with Wimp and Barry Sanderson, the CBS Sports recruiting analyst profiled Alabama’s incoming recruit from Hawaii.
“He has a great personality. He’s the same high school as Marcus Mariota and maybe an inch or two shorter but the same kind of athletic ability. He can run and throw. He’s a passer. He’s a smart kid. He picks things up quickly.” Lemming said.
The co-host of The Lemming Report also described Tagovailoa’s potential as a true freshman for the 2017 season.
“He is the type of guy that could step in as a freshman and do a very good job particularly when you’re surrounded with such great talent that Alabama will be surrounded with next year.” Lemming mentioned.
While Nick Saban has lost two assistant coaches to Pac 12 schools, Lemming noted Saban’s role in maintaining the Crimson Tide’s lofty status in recruiting.
“It normally would be with any school except for Alabama, and mainly because Nick Saban is the reason why the recruiting is so great.” Lemming said.
The veteran recruiting analyst cited Saban’s ability to hire and develop great recruiters in maintaining the program’s level of recruiting success.
Later in the segment, Lemming touched on Alabama’s emphasis in recruiting nationally and provided a progress report on other SEC schools on the recruiting trail.
