Neutral Site Location has Been Announced for the AFC Championship
The neutral AFC title location has been announced for one scenario. If the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills are the teams that play in the AFC Championship game, then the game will be held at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga.
During the last Monday Night Football of the regular season between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo safety Damar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest and was transported to the Cincinnati Medical Center. Due to the circumstances of Hamlin's medical episode, the game was canceled with no date for rescheduling it.
Hamlin is back home with his family but now the question becomes what happens with the AFC. The Bengals and Bills were both fighting for the number one seed with the Chiefs before the Hamlin incident. How would the NFL make it fair to all three of these teams who had to deal with unfortunate events?
The NFL decided this is the best-case scenario: Kansas City gets the bye and the number one seed, the Bills get the two seed, and the Bengals get the three seed.
The AFC championship is a little more complicated. If the Chiefs play the Bills then the game will be held in Atlanta, If the Bengals and Chiefs play in AFC Championship then the game will be at a neutral site which is to be announced soon.
If the Bills and Bengals both make the AFC Championship then the game would be played in Buffalo because both have the same amount of games played.
Whatever happens, only one thing is for certain. Both teams will be playing their hearts out for a chance to go to Arizona and play in Super Bowl 57 against the NFC representative.
