New York Giants Elevate Former Tide DB from Practice Squad
The New York Giants announced Saturday that they elevated former Alabama defensive back Landon Collins from their practice squad.
Collins, an eight-year NFL veteran, was picked up by the Giants in early October after being released by the Commanders in the spring. He has only played 30 snaps this year, recording only one tackle.
Collins, a former five-star from Geismar, LA, signed with the Tide as a member of the 2012 recruiting cycle alongside T.J Yeldon, Amari Cooper, and Reggie Ragland. Collins went on to win one national championship with Alabama and he was named a unanimous All-American in 2015.
The 6-foot-0 safety skipped his senior season to enter the 2015 NFL Draft. Collins was ultimately picked by the New York Giants with the No. 33 overall pick in the draft. After a solid rookie year, Collins burst onto the scene, providing the Giants with a DPOY-caliber season in 2016 followed up by two consecutive Pro Bowl seasons in '17 and '18. After failing to reach a deal with the New York Giants, Collins signed a six-year, $84 million deal with the [then] Washington Redskins. Collins spent three years in Washington before being released in March of 2022.
Collins rejoined the Giants in October of this year, but has only appeared in the team's Week 7 and 8 games against the Jaguars and Seahawks respectively.
Collins may get a shot to prove himself once again in the Giants' matchup this week against his former team, the Washington Commanders.
