A’Shawn Robinson joins Brian Daboll in the Big Apple
On Thursday, the 2023 NFL Draft in Kansas City, Mo, begins and all 32 NFL teams are getting ready. To address one of their biggest needs last season, the New York Football Giants signed former Alabama defensive tackle A'Shawn Robinson to a one-year deal worth up to $8 million.
Robinson becomes the fourth Alabama player to be on the New York Giants joining J.C. Hassenauer, Evan Neal, and Xavier McKinney. Last year, the Giants also hired former Alabama offensive cordinator, Brian Daboll to be the teams head coach. In his first year as head coach, Daboll led the Giants to a 9-7-1 record and a birth in the NFC playoffs.
The Fort Worth native was drafted in the second round by the Detroit Lions in the 2016 draft. In four years at the Motor City, Robinson record 172 total tackles, five sacks, and one interception. After the final year of his rookie deal, Robinson decided to leave Detroit and join the Los Angeles Rams on a two year deal.
Moving to "The City of Angles" was the best thing to happen for Robinsons career. Not only did Robinson win a Super Bowl ring with the Rams, he also had the best year of his entire career. Playing along side future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald, Robinson was a key part in the Rams Super Bowl year by getting 67 total tackles and two sacks.
Robinson now joins All-Pro Dexter Lawrence on the Giants defensive line with a goal to make any opponents offensive line a living nightmare. With Robinson's veteran presence, he can be a leader on a young and hungry Giants team that is looking to add their fifth Super Bowl in franchise history.
