Olympians Meet Back for Regular Season
At the University of Alabama, there is a saying, “Here, Legends are Made”. This couldn’t be truer for the University of Alabama’s swim team. This summer was the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, and the swim team here on campus sent over six athletes to compete for their countries.
Rhyan White, was one of the athletes to go overseas and represent us for Team USA and really left her mark on the international stage. Matching her career best time, and taking first in majority of her individual events, she places 4th in both the 100m and 200m backstroke. White also took home a silver medal for Team USA with her 400m medley relay. She is the 3rd member of UA women’s swim/dive to bring home Olympic medal and the first to bring home a Silver.
As for the rest of the five swimmers that also qualified and represented UA all went off to make this University proud as they competed for their home countries. The swimmers Kalia Antoniou, Diana Petkova, Anton Mckee, Kristian Gkolomeev, and Abbas Qali all showed their home, and their school what they were made of on the international stage. Although these amazing athletes didn’t medal, they still showed the world what Bama is about.
With the 2021-2022 season vastly approaching, these athletes are back on campus and training hard and vastly waiting for the first buzzer of the season to sing. We will get to see how these athletes do in their regular season and hopefully see them do just as well as they did in.
