Raekwon Davis on Returning for His Senior Season

Coming off an SEC championship season and an appearance in the national title game, Alabama lost five starters on defense including two along the defensive line.

Following the 44-16 loss to Clemson, Raekwon Davis announced his decision to return to Tuscaloosa for one final campaign in the crimson and white

The lone starter on the defensive line looks to play a key role as a leader on the defense for the 2019 season. Raekwon Davis made 55 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and six quarterback hurries as a junior defensive end in 2018.

Heading down the final days of spring practice, the senior from Meridian, Mississippi, spoke with reporters about how spring practice has gone for him.

“It’s been fantastic just working with the younger guys, just trying to get them just to buy in with the program and get them to help the program and just keep the tradition going.” Davis said.

Just as leadership development has been a focal point for head coach Nick Saban this spring, Davis explained how developing his leadership skills was his main reason for returning as a senior.

“Basically, that’s the whole reason I came back just to teach the younger guys and just help the team as I can to the best of my ability.” Davis said.

The senior defensive end reiterated the focus of mentoring the younger players as part of his personal goals as a senior.

“To just buy in and help the younger guys basically and just try to make this team better.” Davis said.
