The Crimson Tide has earned its first commitment from the transfer portal, with reports indicating that Alabama has earned a commitment from former NC State running back Hollywood Smothers, according to a report by Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports.

Smothers, a foot-11, 195-pound running back originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, was ranked as a three-star running back coming out of West Charlotte High School andwas the no. 21 overall player in the state of North Carolina.

 

He started his collegiate career with the Oklahoma Sooners in 2023 before transferring to NC State before the 2024 season. During his career, he carried the ball 260 times for 1,552 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also caught 57 receptions for 453 yards and three scores.

 

Smothers led the ACC in rushing yards during the 2025 season with 939 yards and six scoreseraging 5.9 yards per carry and 85 rushing yards per game for the Wolfpack. He is viewed as one of the top running backs who have entered the transfer portal. Smothers took a visit to the Crimson Tide over the weekend, per reports.

 

Smothers is the second commitment for the Crimson Tide out of the transfer portal, joining former Oklahoma State tight end Josh Ford.
