San Francisco 49ers Starting QB Nick Mullens Talks Ball with Jay Barker
After completing 16 of 22 passes to earn a rating of 151.9, Birmingham native Nick Mullens had the best passer rating by a quarterback making his debut with at least 20 attempts since 1970. While becoming the first San Francisco 49rs quarterback to toss three touchdowns in his first game with the team.
Mullens joined Hosts Jay Barker and Lars Anderson during The Jay Barker Show with Lars Anderson and Kerry Adams to recap his historic performance and look back over his journey to the NFL.
"Really just the physicality and the speed of the game," Mullens said. "It really is true, you've got to have a plan, gotta know where you are going with the ball every snap."
The former quarterback for Spain Park High School set the single-season school records for passing yardage and touchdowns (4,476 yards and 38 touchdowns) during his junior season at Southern Mississippi back in 2015. Completing 928 passes for 11,994 yards and 87 touchdowns during his college career.
"I think the biggest thing is just getting the ball out of your hands quick." Mullens replied to Barker when asked about the biggest difference between playing in college and the NFL.
