Settlement Reached in Wrongful Death Lawsuit Surrounding Former Tide Basketball Players
Tuscaloosa, Ala. - A settlement was reached on Friday in a wrongful death civil lawsuit filed by the family of Jamea Harris, a young woman who was killed in January 2023.

The lawsuit was filed against former Alabama basketball players Darius Miles and Brandon Miller in addition to Michael Lynn Davis, a suspect in the shooting on January 14.
According to Ryan Phillips of the Tuscalosoa Patch, the civil lawsuit was set to go to trial in June if a settlement was not reached. An agreement was reached in the form of a trust for an undisclosed amount to be established for Harris's son, who was five years old at the time of Harris's death.
The civil lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice by U.S. District Court Judge Anna M. Manasco after the settlement was reached, with both sides covering their court costs.
While former Alabama basketball player Darius Miles does not yet have a trial date, Michael Lynn Davis is set to go to trial on May 5.
Brandon Miller, a star for the NBA's Charlotte Hornets, was never charged or considered a suspect by investigators.
"Brandon never touched the gun, was not involved in its exchange to Mr. Davis in any way, and never knew that illegal activity involving the gun would occur," Miller's attorney Jim Standridge said in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.
Davis is accused of using the weapon, owned by Miles, to shoot and kill Harris. Both men claim the gun was discussed after Miles allegedly saw a weapon passed to Cedric Johnson during an altercation on The Strip in Tuscaloosa.
Jamea Harris's boyfriend, Cedric Johnson, was behind the wheel of the vehicle when Harris was shot in January 2023.
Davis was shot twice in the altercation, while Johnson has not been charged and is yet to testify in court. Johnson has also been served multiple subpoenas by attorneys.
Johnson was at one time named a defendant in the wrongful death lawsuit but was then dropped as a defendant by the family of Harris, who filed the lawsuit.
Darius Miles was a member of the Alabama basketball roster before being kicked off the team in January 2022 for his association with the deadly shooting on January 14.
