Two Bama Basketball Legends Set to Link up in Charlotte
Even the most surface-level Alabama basketball fan knows about two of the greatest Alabama basketball players from the last decade of Alabama basketball: Collin Sexton and Brandon Miller.

Sexton arrived in Tuscaloosa before the Nate Oats era, providing a light of excellence in the sea of mediocrity that Alabama men's basketball was sifting through during the mid-2010s. Sexton, in his lone season in Tuscaloosa, averaged 19.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while shooting 48% from the floor and 33.6% from three-point range. Sexton led the Crimson Tide to a last-second victory over Texas A&M in the SEC Tournament to secure the Tide's spot in the NCAA Tournament, where they defeated Virginia Tech before falling to the eventual national champion, the Villanova Wildcats.
Sexton went on to be a lottery pick for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2018 NBA draft. Sexton spent four seasons in Cleveland before he was traded to the Utah Jazz during the 2022-23 season. Sexton spent three seasons in Utah before his latest career move.
According to Shams Charania, the Utah Jazz have traded Collin Sexton and a 2030 second-round pick to the Charlotte Hornets for Jusuf Nurkic.
The trade is a notable one for Alabama basketball fans, as Sexton now joins forces with another Alabama basketball legend: Brandon Miller.
Mille's lone season in Tuscaloosa came with a little more success than Sexton's did, with the Tide securing the SEC regular season title and the SEC Tournament championship, earning Alabama the No. 1 overall seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. During his one season in Tuscaloosa, Miller averaged 18.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Miller led the Crimson Tide to the Sweet 16 before falling to San Diego State.
Miller went on to be the highest drafted Alabama basketball player ever, taken with the No. 2 overall pick by the Charlotte Hornets. Miller has spent two seasons in Charlotte, but his 2024-25 season was cut short due to a season-ending injury.
Now on the same squad, Sexton and Miller are joined by LaMelo Ball and the Hornets' two most recent draft picks, Kon Knueppel from Duke and Ryan Kalkbrenner from Creighton.
