Former Alabama wide receiver Devonta Smith had an outstanding performance in the Philadelphia Eagles' loss to their archrivals, the Dallas Cowboys. Smith finished with eight receptions for 113 yards and two touchdowns, a team-high. The Eagles were without MVP candidate Jalen Hurts due to a shoulder injury, but backup Gardner Minshew found success looking in the direction of "Smitty" throughout the night.

The former Heisman trophy winner demonstrated why the Eagles took him in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Smith made catch after catch against a Cowboy defense that ranks ninth in passing and top 15 overall.

On a fourth down play, Smitty caught his first touchdown for 14 yards. Devonta snuck behind former Crimson Tide Trevon Diggs and found himself wide open in the end zone.

Minshew connected with Devonta Smith on a huge third down for a nine-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Smith's precision route running helped him find separation throughout the night.

Smith reached a significant milestone in this game. He surpassed 1,000 yards for the first time in his early career. Most are not surprised by Smith's accomplishment as he won the 2020 Heisman Trophy while at Alabama, becoming the first receiver to do it since 1991. So, it was only a matter of time before Smitty got his chance to prove what he's really capable of in the NFL.

Despite the loss, the Eagles stay atop the NFC conference at 13-2. To secure the No. 1 seed in the playoffs and land a BYE week, the must finish their remaining opponents on their schedule. Next Sunday, they will host the New Orleans Saints.
