The University of Alabama Board of Trustees approved raises and salaries of several Alabama football staff members. Offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian had an $850,000 raise approved to bump his annual salary up to $2.5 million per year. New strength and conditioning team, David Ballou and Dr. Matt Rhea, had their salaries approved by the Board of Trustees. Ballou will earn $500,000 and Dr. Rhea will earn $450,000 this year.

The Alabama football program has announced that offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian underwent a procedure to correct a congenital cardiovascular anomaly. Coach Sarkisian underwent the heart surgery last Thursday, July 2, in Birmingham. He is currently home in Tuscaloosa and is expected to make a full recovery. The issue was discovered during an annual executive physical that all the coaching staff undertakes prior to the season starting.

Alabama Offensive Coordinator Steve Sarkisian has decided to remain in Tuscaloosa and withdraw his name for consideration for the University of Colorado’s vacant head coaching position. Sarkisian was widely believed to be the front runner for the job in Boulder but elects to stay in Tuscaloosa and coach the Tide and is expected to receive a sizable raid making him one of college football’s highest paid assistant coaches according to ESPN’s Chris Low.
