Tennessee Quarterback Joey Aguilar Granted Temporary Restraining Order Against NCAA
Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar was granted a temporary restraining order against the NCAA on Wednesday, February 4th, according to Knox News reporter Adam Sparks. Aguilar spent the 25-26 season with the Vols and was previously attached to former Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia's lawsuit against the NCAA for an additional year of eligibility.
With Aguilar being granted the temporary restraining order, it allows him to participate in winter workouts and team events without interference from the NCAA until his hearing which is set for Friday, February 13th, 2026.

Aguilar started his career at City College of San Francisco before transferring to Diablo Valley State in 2021, completing 228 passes for 2,992 passing yards and 21 touchdowns while also throwing 10 interceptions. He also had 619 rushing yards and two scores on the ground.
In 2023, Aguilar transferred to Appalachian State, where he spent the next two seasons, while he was named the backup going into the 2023 season, after an injury in week one to starter Ryan Burger, Aguilar took over as App State's starting quarterback as a redshirt sophomore, throwing for 3,757 passing yards and throwing 33 touchdowns while also throwing 10 interceptions.
In his second season with the Mountaineers, Aguilar threw for 3,003 passing yards and 23 touchdowns with a career high 14 Interceptions in the 2024-2025 Season. Following the 2024 season, Aguilar decided to enter the transfer portal and signed with the UCLA Bruins.
In April of 2025, following the fallout between current Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava and the Volunteers, Iamaleava entered the portal and signed with UCLA. Aguilar then re-entered the portal and landed in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he currently looks to gain an additional year of eligibility with hopes to lead the Vols back to the Playoffs. In his lone season (so far) with the Volunteers, Aguilar completed 67.3% of his passes for 3,565 yards and 24 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. He contributed 101 yards and four scores on the ground, leading Tennessee to an 8-5 record.
