Alabama baseball fell to third-ranked LSU, 6-4, on Saturday afternoon in a 13-inning affair, the second of the three game series between the two SEC foes. With the loss, Alabama moves to 15-15 overall and 4-8 in the conference.

Alabama’s offense put together four runs in the bottom of the fourth to counter the two tallies the Tigers produced in the top half of the inning. The Tigers would tie it up in the fifth with a two-spot, and then both teams would go cold until the 13th inning.

LSU led off the top of the 13th with a walk and then an errant throw on a stolen base put the Tiger runner at third. During the same at-bat, a failed pickoff attempt to third went into left field and helped the Tigers plate the go-ahead run. LSU would record one more in the inning to go ahead 6-4.

Alabama and LSU combined to play 37 total innings in the series after playing 16 innings in Thursday’s series opener and 13 innings in today’s contest. It marks the most innings ever played in a three-game series for Alabama. The previous mark came when Alabama played 36 innings at Mississippi State on April 11-12, 1969.

Next up for the Crimson Tide is a midweek game at Samford on Tuesday. The two teams are scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. CT start inside Joe Lee Griffin Stadium. The Tide and Bulldogs have met once already this season, with Alabama taking the 8-6 win on March 17.
