Tide Rookies in the NFL: Week One Recap
Week one of the National Football League has finished, and six of the ten draft prospects made their official debut.
Below is an overview of each rookie that appeared during opening week and a breakdown of their performance:
Carolina Panthers vs New Orleans Saints:
DB Kool-Aid McKinstry stepped in for Marshon Lattimore after he sustained a hamstring injury. Making the most of his opportunity, McKinstry recorded two tackles in his debut. More is expected to come from McKinstry as the Saints continue their season.
Tennessee Titans vs Chicago Bears:
OT JC Latham had a rocky start in his debut, allowing two sacks, seven hurries, and five hits on quarterback Will Levis. However, he is determined to bounce back and prove his worth as a top draft pick in the Titans upcoming game against the NY Jets on Sept. 15.
Minnesota Vikings vs NY Giants:
LB Dallas Turner with his disruptive presence on the field, generating significant pressure against the Giants and thrilling the fans with a sack on quarterback Daniel Jones. He concluded his debut with three tackles, one sack, and one tackle for loss. He was also awarded the player of the game ball.
K Will Reichard, a reliable addition to the Vikings special teams, continued to build on his impressive kicking credentials. He had a flawless debut, successfully converting all four of his extra point attempts.
Detroit Lions vs Los Angeles Rams:
CB Terrion Arnold was a standout performer, logging an impressive 97% of the snaps. He was relentless throughout the game, consistently applying pressure on the Rams offense and showcasing his ability to dominate the field. Arnold's lockdown defense was evident, as he made several clean, physical plays to ensure the Rams receivers were tightly guarded. After the game, Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp praised Arnold, calling him "one of them ones!" In total, Arnold recorded eight tackles, contributing significantly in the Lions victory.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Washington Commanders:
LB Chris Braswell highlighted his impressive strength, breaking through to the Dolphins backfield to secure his first NFL sack. As the season progresses, Braswell could be a vital piece to the Buccaneers defense.
