Quarterbacks Ty Simpson and John Mateer Praise Each Other
No. 4 Alabama and No. 11 Oklahoma will square off in a high-stakes Southeastern Conference showdown on Saturday in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The meeting marks Alabama's annual homecoming game, adding another layer of energy and anticipation around an already high-profile matchup.
As is typical, players from both teams have spoken to the media to preview the game. During Oklahoma's availability, quarterback John Mateer offered thoughtful insight into what he has seen from the Crimson Tide, particularly the play of Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson, who has emerged as one of the most efficient signal-callers in college football this season. "Super respectable guy, really good quarterback, really good football player," Mateer said when asked about his familiarity with Simpson. He went on to highlight Simpson's awareness and decision-making: "They make a lot of tricks at the line of scrimmage, and he gets them in the right track a lot. It's part of the offense and the coaching, but he gets it done, and his touchdown-to-interception ratio is really, really good and everyone knows that, so I'm excited to watch."
Through nine games, Simpson has thrown 21 touchdowns to just one interception–one of the most efficient stat lines among Power Five quarterbacks this season. His ability to protect the football while still generating explosive plays has been a driving force behind Alabama's success.
Simpson, who spoke with reporters on Tuesday, returned the praise for Mateer, emphasizing the mutual respect between the two quarterbacks despite the magnitude of Saturday's matchup.
"He's very athletic, a great quarterback, and carries that offense," Simpson said. "Ton of respect to John and what he does. Not only that, but he's a really good person, and a guy that I really enjoy hanging around."
Saturday's game will not only feature two top-tier teams but two quarterbacks who appreciate each other's craft and love for the game.
