Over the weekend, one of Alabama's most cherished alums and former players passed away Sunday at the age of 85.
Starr grew up in Montgomery and played at Alabama under Harold "Red" Drew and J.B. "Ears" Whitworth from 1952-1955. During those four seasons in Tuscaloosa, he led the Crimson Tide to an SEC championship and a Cotton Bowl appearance.
Following his four years at Alabama, Star was selected in the 17th round of the 1956 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. The Montgomery native won two Super Bowls, five NFL titles and took home Super MVP twice in 16 seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
Not too long after Starr left for the Packers, Wimp Sanderson arrived in Tuscaloosa as an assistant basketball coach for Hayden Riley's Alabama basketball program. Sanderson later coach the Tide to 267 wins along with 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, five SEC Tournament titles and one SEC regular season title.
