Alabama Football Hires Oklahoma Analyst as Assistant Defensive Line Coach
Alabama football isn't finished filling out its defensive staff, with Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reporting that the Crimson Tide is hiring Trent Simpson from Oklahoma as an assistant defensive line coach.

Simpson has worked at Oklahoma for the last four seasons and was a defensive analyst for the Sooners over the last three. According to On3's report on Simpson's hiring with the Crimson Tide, he will get a promotion in his move to the Crimson Tide. He joins Alabama defensive line coach Freddie Roach in coaching the Crimson Tide's defensive line under defensive coordinator Kane Wommack, who is in his third season commanding the Tide's defense after previously being the head coach at South Alabama.
According to Mike Rodak of 247 Sports, Simpson has worked with Alabama outside linebackers coach Christian Robinson as a graduate assistant at Florida, and is an Oxford, Alabama, native. He played college baseball at Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City, Alabama, and played defensive line at Mississippi State.
As a defensive lineman at Mississippi State in 2013, he was a three-star recruit ranked as the 45th overall defensive lineman in Alabama. During his senior season, he recorded 49 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. After one season at Mississippi State, he opted to play baseball. His brother, Tucker Simpson, is a former pitcher at the University of Florida and Troy University.
