Alabama Gets Four Players On All-Conference Teams
The SEC announces all conference awards which were dominated by the conference regular season champions Auburn Tigers. Jabari Smith won Freshmen of the year and Defensive player of the year was won by Walker Kessler. Alabama was represented by four players on the All-SEC teams including Jaden Shackelford, JD Davison, Charles Bediako and Keon Ellis.
Junior guard Jaden Shackelford is listed on the second team for All-SEC honors. Shackelford averaged a team high 16.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists from 39% shooting on the year.
Two freshmen from Alabama were awarded All-freshmen team in JD Davison and Charles Bediako. Davison averaged 8.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists. His best highlight of the year was dunking on the Defensive player of the year Walker Kessler. Bediako averaged 6.8 points and 4.4 rebounds on the year.
Senior guard Keon Ellis was also included in the all-SEC selections. Ellis was awarded a spot on the all defensive team. The all-SEC defensive team is by far the hardest to make considering there is only five spots available for the leagues premier defenders, whereas their are eight or nine spots on the other All-SEC teams. Ellis ran away with the team lead in steals at 1.9. Ellis has also proven to be one of the best two-way players in the conference as he is averaging 12.1 points and six rebounds a game.
The Crimson Tide will next be in action on Thursday against the winner of Vanderbilt and Georgia, as they look to defend their SEC Tournament Championship in Tampa Bay.
