Alabama Plans to File Waiver to Medically Redshirt Star Guard
Tuscaloosa, Ala - Nate Oats revealed on The Game with Ryan Fowler Friday afternoon that Alabama intends to file the waiver to allow guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr to receive a medical redshirt and return to Alabama for the 2025-2026 season.
Wrightsell suffered a season-ending Achilles tear during the Crimson Tide's loss to the Oregon Ducks on November 30th. Wirghtsell Jr. averaged 11.5 points per game on 42.2% from behind the arc before his injury.

"The rule in basketball is 30% [of games played], and he can't play in any games in the last half of the season. He's underneath the 30 percent total, and the only games he did play were in the front half of the season. We're going to file for it with the SEC. I don't see any reason why he shouldn't get it, he meets all the criteria." said Oats.
Without Wrightsell Jr., the Crimson Tide faced some difficulties shooting the ball from three, recording a measly 29.9% from deep over the next three games.
The Tide would begin to find their rhythm back, benefited by the assurance of guards Chris Youngblood, who scored 23 points on seven made threes in Wednesday night's win over No. 14 Mississippi State, Aden Holloway, who has shot over 50% from deep in five-out-of-seven contests in conference play, and Labaron Philon.
Oats would praise Wrightsell later in the interview, stating, "Our plan is for him to be back next year, it'll is great because he's an experienced college player who shoots it at a really high clip that knows our system. He's a great kid; everyone in the program loves him."
Under the assumption that the NCAA grants the waiver for Wrightsell and Alabama, returning the sharpshooter is excellent news for Nate Oats & Co.
