Alabama Recruiting Slowing Down, For Now

In recent years, the Nick Saban's staff has torn up the recruiting trails, but after winning three national championships in the last 4 seasons the approach has changed.

With recruits across the country clammoring for one of the coveted spots in the 2014, the coaching staff has become more selective, only taking 5 commitments thus far. While the quantity is limited, the quality has not as 3 prospects are ranked in the ESPN 150.ESPN Tide Nation's Greg Ostendorf joined The Game to discuss the Crimson Tide's most recent recruits, and explained why you may not see many commitments in coming weeks.

"Its been a little slow since A-Day, but last week they picked up defensive back Stephen Roberts, then the week before that Sean Dion Hamilton an ESPN 150 Linebacker from Montgomery, but right now its the coaches evaluation period."

"They're out on the road looking at different prosepcts; they can't talk to them but the can watch them. Its just the next step in the recruiting proccess."

As coaches continue to search the country for the top players in the country, Ostendorf also added that the staff has not neglected their hold on their home state of Alabama.

"They are able to recruit nationally because of the success they've had recently, but they want to lock down the top kids in the state of Alabama" Ostendorf said.  "When it comes to the Iron Bowl they want to have the best kids in Alabama and they don't want Georgia coming over and taking these guys"

"There is no doubt Alabama wants to dominate the state, but obviously they want to evalute the kids and make sure they are good enough. They aren't going to take a kid just bcause he is from the state of Alabama."
