Alabama Tennis Shines in Season Opener at SEC Challenge
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men’s tennis team kicked off the 2024-25 season with an impressive performance on Friday at the SEC Challenge. The Crimson Tide secured a doubles victory and triumphed in three of four singles matches.
Doubles and Singles Success
The duo of Roan Jones and Andrii Zimnokh led the way with a flawless performance against Mississippi State. They first defeated Radomir Tomic and Michal Novansky in doubles, then each followed up with singles victories against the same opponents. Jones and Zimnokh’s dominance set a strong tone for the team.
Additionally, newcomer Damien Nezar celebrated his first victory in a Crimson Tide uniform, winning his singles match against Florida’s Bradley Paliska.
Tournament Format
Throughout the SEC Challenge, players will compete in pairs. Each pair will play one doubles match and two singles matches per round. The duo that wins at least two of the three matches will advance in the tournament’s compass draw format.
Looking Ahead
Alabama’s strong start bodes well for the rest of the tournament as the team aims to build on this early success. Fans can look forward to more exciting matches and impressive performances from the Crimson Tide.
