Alex McGough Wins USFL MVP
The Birmingham Stallions had a rocky start to 2023 after losing their starting quarterback, J'Mar Smith in Week 1 to a season-ending finger injury. Little did the fans in the Magic City know the man who filled in for Smith in that first game, would lead the team to another year of success. That man's name is Alex McGough.
McGough was named the USFL MVP on Friday ahead of this weekend's USFL Championship game.
McGough currently leads the league with 20 passing touchdowns and 150 total points. The Tampa native heads into the championship with 180 completions, a 67.4% completion percentage, and 2,104 passing yards.
McGough has been a human highlight reel since he took over the starting position from Smith back in April. By providing a strong leadership alongside head coach Skip Holtz, McGough has helped make Birmingham's offense one of the most dominant in the league.
While the MVP has had a phenomenal season thus far, there is still one more game to go. The Stallions will play the Pittsburgh Maulers in the USFL Championship on Saturday, July 1, 2023.
