It appears a fifth Alabama football player is bound for the transfer portal.

Frequent Tide 100.9 guest Mike Rodak and his co-worker Matt Zentis at 247 Sports both report that defensive lineman Anquin Barnes of Montgomery Lee High School plans to leave Tuscaloosa.

Barnes is a redshirt sophomore defensive tackle who did not play in a game during his first two seasons. He did get into two games this 2023 season, against Middle Tennessee State and Chattanooga, coming off the bench in both cases.

247 Sports rated Barnes as a four-star prospect in the 2021 high school class and the 44th-best defensive lineman nationally.

Barnes would be the fifth current or former Alabama player to enter the NCAA football transfer portal this offseason, joining receivers Thaiu Jones-Bell and  Ja'Corey Brooks and defensive lineman Isaiah Hastings. In addition, quarterback Tyler Buchner entered the NCAA lacrosse transfer portal, where he is said to be returning to Notre Dame.

The NCAA football transfer portal opened Dec. 4 and will stay open for Alabama players until five days after the team's final game, be that Jan. 1 or Jan. 8.
