Auburn’s Redshirt Freshman LB Kicked Off Team Due to Recent Arrest
On Wednesday, Auburn Football’s head coach, Hugh Freeze, announced redshirt freshman linebacker D’Angelo “DJ” Barber would no longer be a part of the program following his arrest on three charges, including felony drug trafficking, which happened on Monday.

Freeze told AuburnSports.com on Wednesday that “D.J. Barber is no longer a member of our football team due to violation of team rules.”
Barber was a member of the Tigers' 2024 recruiting class, after redshirting this past fall for his freshman season. The three-star prospect out of Clay-Chalkville was also charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.
On Monday at 9 a.m., during a traffic stop on Highway 280 in Dadeville, police discovered two and a half pounds of Marijuana, THC Vapes, digital scales, marijuana packaging, $1,897 in US currency, and a Glock 19 (mm pistol, according to a press release by the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s office.
Barber graduated from Clay-Chalkville, contributing to the team's 2023 6A AHSAA State Championship victory against Saraland, which at the time was led by Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams, where he made a crucial stop on the game-winning touchdown to secure the state title.
According to On3, Barber was the No.50 linebacker, No.31 player in the state of Alabama, and No.586th overall prospect in the 2024 class. The redshirt freshman played in one game last season during the Tigers' 73-3 win over Alabama A&M in Auburn’s season debut, but he did not record a stat.
