Bama Expected to Make OC Hire and More Staff Changes

Kalen DeBoer has made his second offensive coordinator hire as the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Earlier in the month, Ryan Grubb left Alabama before he even coached a game and accepted the offensive coordinator job for the Seattle Seahawks. Coach DeBoer had to make his second OC hire just a month into the Alabama job.

He seems to have his guy. According to sources, Nick Sheridan is expected to be promoted from tight end coach to Alabama's offensive coordinator position.

JaMarcus Shephard is expected to get a promotion as well. Shephard is a fast riser in the coaching world, with both he and Sheridan receiving interest from other programs across the country. Shephard is expected to be the co-offensive coordinator while still coaching wide receivers.

Sheridan is expected to move from being the tight end's coach to coaching quarterbacks in addition to the OC promotion.

The Crimson Tide also are very high on running back coach Robert Gillespie per sources. Gillespie has been with the Crimson Tide since January of 2021. He's coached players such as Brian Robinson Jr. and Jahmyr Gibbs to the NFL, and Jase McClellan to the NFL draft. Gillespie will now have the opportunity to develop Alabama's backfield again with Jam Miller, Justice Haynes, and Richard Young.

Sheridan and Shephard followed Kalen DeBoer from Washington, and their loyalty is expected to pay off. Sheridan played quarterback at Michigan from 2006 to 2010. He previously had play-calling experience when he was Indiana's offensive coordinator in 2020 and 2021 before joining DeBoer in Washington in 2022. Shephard joined DeBoer in Washington in 2022 also.

Jay Nunez, who was recently hired as a special teams analyst, has the potential to be the tight end coach as well as special teams.
