Collin Sexton Cleared for Basketball Activities
Former Crimson Tide hoops star and current Cleveland Cavalier Collin Sexton has officially been cleared for full basketball activities, per Shams Charania of The Athletic. The young point guard went down with a torn MCL just eleven games into the 2021 season.
Sexton led the Cavaliers in scoring in 2020 and has been a massive contributor when healthy. Across his four seasons in Cleveland, the former top-10 recruit averaged 20 points per game while shooting nearly 45 percent from the floor and 38 percent from three.
Charania also reported that Sexton's value in free agency could, "reach the $20-million-per-year range."
A five-star recruit in the 2017 cycle, Sexton chose Alabama over dozens of other offers, including powerhouses such as North Carolina, Kansas, Villanova and more. In his lone season for the Tide, the Marietta, GA native started 32 games and averaged a team leading 19.2 points and 3.6 assists per game.
Most fans will likely always remember Sexton's buzzer beater to defeat Texas A&M in the 2017 SEC Tournament.
Although Sexton and the Tide booked a ticket to March off of that victory, their time in the tournament was short lived, losing to Villanova in the second round.
Sexton declared for the 2018 NBA Draft following the season and was selected eighth overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers who were looking to replace recently departed Kyrie Irving.
While his time with the Cavaliers has been solid, reports from Michael Scotto of HoopsHype indicate that Cleveland may be ready to move on from Sexton.
NBA free agency opens on June 30, so until then, nothing is likely to happen regarding his future. Whatever team Sexton does end up with; however, is getting a potential superstar.
